Over the past 80 years we have harvested and cherished our relationships with local BC Farmers.
During the summer months, we will be featuring local farms and the hard working employees behind it.

Every farmer has a story, and we would like to share theirs.

THE story this month comes from our friends at

Evergreen Herbs in Surrey, BC.

A Ditch to a Field

This is a story not of rags to riches but rather “a ditch to a field.” How two brothers started a company with a small patch of their father’s farm and an office in a garage and grew it into a highly successful, sustainable, thoughtful business that is leading the way in local farming.

“The ditch” in question is where the water comes from to irrigate their now mostly, organic fields of herbs, baby vegetables, cucumbers, rhubarb, micro greens and baby lettuces. Before the collective sound of the collective “icks” gathers steam, this business invested in 2 pieces of machinery and tanks to clean the water. That is right; the water is purified better than our drinking water. This is what they use to water their fields. No chance of any contamination or harm to a water table or using too much water in a dry summer, this, my friends, is sustainability at its most imaginative.

“The field” is a mass of beautiful herbs and tiny baby vegetables and squashes for as far as you can see. All fed with water that passes every food safety test and is grown right in the Fraser Valley. It is a testament to the forward thinking of 2 brothers, Ron and TJ Brar and what they want their future and the future of their company, Evergreen Herbs and Roots Organic to look like.
